Weed Etiquette 101: 5 Things New Smokers Need to Know
Though the number of registered cannabis users worldwide exceeds two hundred million, this doesn’t account for the millions who remain unregistered. In any case, among this large number, there are smokers who have been at it for decades and others who in a sense are just getting started.
In any case, if you’ve just gotten started with smoking and you want to know a thing or two about old school etiquette, we’ve got something for you.
The Unsaid Rules
When it comes to smoking, there are a number of unsaid rules, codes and suggestions as to how to behave. If you weren’t smoking back in the day, here are some things you might want to know about smoking etiquette!
Boggarting , hogging and clinging to the joint is not okay. Rule number one! Don’t hog the joint or bong or whatever you’re smoking. If you’re smoking in company, the decent thing to do is gauge how many tokes each person should have so that everyone gets equal share.
If you’re two people sharing, you may take your time. If there’s more, do the math! In any case, don’t boggart the joint.
If you’re in doubt, stick with the old norm; ‘Puff, Puff, Pass’ !
This one started as a house rule but is a given among most seasoned smoker circles. If the weed belongs to you, if you’re taking the trouble of packing or if you rolled the joint, you get the first toke.
If you’re the one rolling or packing, offering a particular person in the group may be a way to show respect, reassure acceptance or simply express love and appreciation. Remember, rollers/packers privilege. If the roller/packer allows someone else to light, it’s probably a positive friendly gesture!
Asking for Joints
Finally, we come to the asking for joints bit. Say you’re dry, say you smoked your stash, say you need some bud to put you to bed! What do you do? Most newbie smokers think it’s okay to just say, “ hey, can I have a joint to take home ”?
Though this may be well, good and innocent, it’s not good manners! If you must ask for a joint or some weed to go, make sure:
- The person is an old close friend
- The person has enough to smoke for themselves
- The person is someone you have a pre-set relationship with
Asking strangers and first time acquaintances for marijuana to take home after they have smoked you out is not in good taste! It’s like asking your hosts for the bottle of wine you were drinking when together!
Here are the bare basics of communal smoking but there may be others! In any case, being a company that sells bongs , bubblers , dab rigs , oil rigs and all kinds of smoking paraphernalia and accessories to clients in Canada and the US online , it makes sense that we know what the culture is about!
Follow these house rules and you should be alright! If you’re looking for some really sick smoking paraphernalia , accessories and equipment, check out what we’ve got for you ! Happy toking folks!
