Methods to Avoid for How to Clean a Silicone Pipe

Let’s start with what NOT to do, just to clear the air. As with all things on the internet, some of the suggested ways to go about cleaning your silicone bongs aren’t safe and should be avoided. As a general rule, it’s best to avoid using any product for cleaning that you would feel wary about inhaling or consuming. If you see any of the following suggestions, avoid them. Do not try them at home!

  • Can I use hydrogen peroxide to clean my bong?
  • Homemade 420 cleaner with shady ingredients – just ask yourself, “would I want to inhale whatever’s inside this?”
  • What about using acetone to clean bong?

These methods involve dangerous chemicals that you have no business using in an object out of which you intend to smoke. Inhaling these chemicals could be very harmful or even fatal to you.

How to Clean Silicone Bong

In this section, we’ll cover the four major methods for cleaning silicone bongs that are safe, easy, and affordable.

Dishwasher

We’ve seen stoner after stoner asking “is silicone dishwasher safe?” Not only is silicone completely dishwasher safe, but your silicone bong is also dishwasher safe. That’s right; you can put the whole bong in dishwasher!

The absolute simplest way to clean your bong is taking it apart and putting all the pieces in the dishwasher. Let that hot water and soap work its magic and clean whatever silicone bongs you’ve got at home.

If you go with this method you may find that you still need a bong brush silicone pipe cleaner or another type of pot pipe cleaner to help figure out how to get resin out of a bong or how to unclog a bong.

This is a great method to use for how to clean a bong without alcohol, not that that’s a bad option! In fact, it’s next on our list.

Looking for a silicone bong you can take with you ANYwhere? We’re serious, the Roll Uh Bowl bong is über flexible, meaning it’ll slide into any bag’s side pocket then spring into action when you need it to most!

Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the most common methods people use for how to clean a weed pipe of any type. Alcohol is a largely effective method for cleaning silicone bongs and glass bongs.

The alcohol method is really easy and effective. All you have to do is take your bong apart and submerge each piece in a container of alcohol. You can use either cold or warm isopropyl alcohol of 70% concentration or higher, but warm will speed up the process.

Leave the bong submerged in the alcohol for at least a few hours, if not overnight. Once it’s done soaking, rinse all the pieces of your bong with water to ensure you get every last little bit of alcohol out of your piece, then leave it to dry.

Freezing

The major benefit to using a silicone bong vs glass is that the freezing method is far more effective and easier to accomplish because of the flexibility of the silicone.

How to clean silicone bong freezer is super easy! Simply throw your silicone pipe in the freezer for a few hours, letting all the gunk get good and frozen on the sides. Because silicone bongs are flexible, once you take your bong out you can bend and manipulate it to force the gunk out.

The only downside to this method is that it’s not a very effective way to figure out how to get smell out of silicone. It’s a very effective way to clean out all the resin, though.

Vinegar

Just like with glass pipes, you can easily clean the bong with vinegar. To figure out how to clean a bong with vinegar, all you need to do is do the exact same thing as you did with alcohol, only replace the alcohol with vinegar.

This method is much more effective if you add some baking soda to the mix. The coarse texture of the baking soda helps to scrub the sides of the bong, clearing them of all the resin caked up.

Let the world know what type of humour you enjoy with the Trailer Park Boys bong. All jokes aside, it’s a great bong made of food-grade silicone and has a very handy suction cup base.

Tips for how to clean a weed bowl when it’s silicone

There are a few things you should know about cleaning your silicone bong bowl before you get started. These tips will help to make your cleaning process easier and more effective.

  • If you’re having trouble getting everything out of your pipe (which can be particularly difficult if it’s been crusted on for a while, particularly in the silicone downstem) then we recommend investing in a nicer, store-bought marijuana pipe cleaner, like 420 Bong Cleaner or Orange Chronic Bong Cleaner.
  • Using boiling vinegar or boiling water can be an effective method as well, though we find the boiling process to be not entirely necessary. The other methods are just as effective without risking burns or wasting time taking that extra step.
  • Make sure you research how to clean resin out of a glass bowl if your silicone pipe comes with a glass bowl, because the methods aren’t always interchangeable.
  • Always make sure you rinse your pipes thoroughly after cleaning with alcohol, vinegar, weed pipe cleaners, etc. You don’t want to inhale or ingest these chemicals or have your hits tasting or smelling like vinegar. Once you’re sure you’ve thoroughly rinsed everything, lay it out to dry, letting the water evaporate away entirely.

Use Orange Chronic so you have chronically clean pipes! All natural ingredients and a happy, smiling orange encouraging you from the label? Yeah, we’re more incentivized to clean now, too!

How to clean a bong or pipe that’s made of silicone

Cannabis and glass have a relationship that’s nearly as old as time, but as the years go on, consumers and professionals are looking for exciting new materials that can help to enhance the experience. One of the most popular so far in 2019 has been silicone bongs and weed pipes, which offer a variety of benefits, but since they are made using a lesser-known material, most aren’t quite sure how to clean them without causing irreparable damage to the piece.

What is resin?

The culprit in question is often referred to as resin, and it’s that viscous liquid that builds up inside of bongs and pipes after each use. It consists of a combination of ingredients, including cannabis plant matter, oils, ashes, and when applicable, bong water. All these things come together to create a slimy substance that is very similar to grease.

Don’t use strong chemical-based cleaners on silicone

Instead of using milder soaps, most consumers end up buying mass-produced bong cleaners that are intended for use on glass. The unfortunate side effect of that is some pretty serious damage to the silicone materials that provide the integrity of the piece. Since a silicone bong or pipe doesn’t come equipped with a protective sleeve or insert, everything that you put through it comes into direct contact with the silicone.

Stronger chemicals will wash away from most glass materials, but since silicone is full of tiny little air pockets that can slowly be degraded with exposure, using it on this piece will quickly degrade its life expectancy, leading to premature cracks and tears that will eventually render it unusable.

Homemade silicone bong and pipe cleaning solution

Most glass bong cleaning recipes contain ingredients that can scratch the inside of a silicone piece, so it is important to use the right one if you want your bong or pipe to last for as long as it can. Luckily, a good silicone cleaner is really easy to make, and only requires a few simple ingredients that you probably have lying around the house.

  • 1 cup of steaming hot water
  • 3 drops of Dawn dish detergent
  • 2 teaspoons of white or apple cider vinegar
  1. Add all the ingredients to a bowl and stir them together until they are thoroughly combined.

This bong cleaner recipe makes 1 cup of solution, so if you need more, just multiply the ingredients until you have enough.

How to clean a bong

Silicone bongs typically include two pieces, which are the base and a separate removable glass or metal bowl. To clean one, you will need to remove the bowl and stem piece and prepare some cleaning solution prior to following the steps set out below. Ensure your bong cleaner is fresh and steaming hot for the very best results.

Find a container that your silicone pipe can fit snugly into. This will help to save on cleaning solution ingredients and make it easy to submerge the entire device.

Ensure that the bowl and any other removable pieces are taken out.

Place the bong base and stem into the container and fill it to the top with the cleaning solution, making sure that the inside of the tool is full too as it tends to get the dirtiest.

Leave the pieces to sit in the gentle cleaning solution for one full hour before moving on to the next step.

At this point, if you have a gentle plastic bristled brush you can use it to dislodge the gunk that is resting inside of the piece and bowl. If you don’t, then when the bong is done soaking, rinse it out with hot water. Remember, the silicone is made to withstand higher temperatures, and they can help to remove the thickest grime, so use water as hot as you can handle until it looks clean. The bowl can be challenging, but it’s nothing that a few cotton swabs and a bit of elbow grease can’t fix.

Rest the bong over a clean dish rag or paper towels until it is dry for storage or fill it up with water right away. Either way, your freshly cleaned bong is ready to go for the next time you need it.

How to clean a pipe

You can use the same cleaning recipe for silicone pipes, but since they tend to have small and more narrow chambers, they can be more challenging to scrub completely clean, but the good news is that you don’t need so much cleaner to get them sparkling like new if you use the Ziploc baggie trick.

If you have a screen or water inside of your pipe, ensure that they are removed before you proceed.

Place the pipe inside of a Ziplock baggie and pour enough of the hot cleaning solution to cover it entirely. Just remember that baggies are thin, so unless you are using a safe freezer version that can withstand heat, you might have to be careful with how much you use.

Once it’s full, seal up the baggie and set it inside of a sink in case of leaks while you wait for it to soak away the grime, which can take up to 1 hour.

Now remove the pipe from the cleaning solution and get out your cotton swabs or gentle plastic brushes to carefully scrub away any remaining resin.

Rinse the device clean with warm water, and the task is finally complete. Allow it to dry before tossing it into your rolling kit or reinstall the screen and puff away.

Everything you need to know about silicone bongs and pipes

A silicone bong or pipe is no different than designs that are made using other, more traditional materials like glass. .

Luckily, a good silicone cleaner is really easy to make, and only requires a few simple ingredients that you probably have lying around the house.
