Cannabis Tea Recipe – How to Make Cannabis Tea?

Who would’ve thought that the tea lovers and marijuana lovers will come together to create something as unique and peculiar as a cannabis tea? With the researchers and scientists expanding the horizons of the cannabis world, edibles are finally reaching out to their full potential. From just weed brownies to a whole cannabis breakfast, innovation is at its best with the unprecedented love for green buds and flowers. So, in this article, we explore the many ways in which we can answer the question – how to make cannabis tea?

Nothing is simply laid down when it comes to the world of cannabinoids and a general understanding of the buds. Making tea won’t mean seeping the cannabis bud & flower and drinking it. That would be very unpleasant. To make sure you understand the nuances of cannabis tea, let’s look at other factors before moving on to the recipe.

Cannabis Tea – A Safer Alternative

Cannabis is used for recreational purposes or their varied medicinal properties, with each one of them having their own set of pros and cons. Many people like the instant hit they experience when smoking the herbs while many argue that edibles and slow enhancement of the entourage effect are the keys to a good experience. Clearly, cannabis tea comes in the second category.

How to make cannabis tea is a question that we will answer later. Before that, let’s have a look at why cannabis tea is soaring in popularity and is loved by enthusiasts all over the world.

Cannabis-infused tea is the healthier way to consume the goodness of cannabinoids as it cancels out the use of lungs and smoke. Moreover, it takes out the load of using sugar and honey in your edibles while baking or in any other way. You give your lungs a break, while still benefiting from the complete infusion of cannabinoids from the green plant. Best of both the world!

Does Marijuana tea make you high?

Before we move to the topic of how to make cannabis tea, let’s understand what to expect when you drink marijuana tea.

The cannabis plant has more than 100 cannabinoids with the most celebrated ones being THC and CBD. While THC lends its intoxicating and “high” effect, CBD brings the medicinal qualities without any effect.

Before we move further, you have to remember that when dealing with raw cannabis, the same cannabinoids do not carry the intoxicating effect as they are present in their acidic form. THC becomes THCA, and CBD is CBDA. These are converted into the true compound when heated or decarboxylated.

The cannabis is heated while making brownies, or in butter or oil during the preparation time. But if you’re decarboxylating it before the cooking process, make sure you keep an eye on the moisture of the plant, the quantity, and of course, the method of heating it.

Now you have heated your weed, and steeped it to make the most flavoursome tea, but..here’s a catch. If you’re used to smoking herbs and flowers, you will be taken aback by the sweet time cannabis takes to show its effects.

While smoking, the effect hits your lungs and shows an immediate reaction through the endocannabinoid system of the body. But when it comes to consuming cannabis, it has to go through the digestive system and then gets metabolized in your liver. This takes around more than an hour to finally start to show the “highness”. Make sure you start low and go slow, and wait for sometime after consuming a cup. I mean, you can always make more if you don’t feel anything.

Now, without further ado, we are moving on to the big question – how to make cannabis tea. Let’s see!

How to make cannabis tea?

Like any other tea, Marijuana tea is abundant in recipes and different experiments. Here, we will be discussing two of the most favourite recipes.

1. Marijuana Tea – The Easiest Method

For this method, you will need:

  • A gram cannabis bud (more if you’re making more than one cup)
  • 1 teaspoon butter (cannabis-infused or not)
  • Teabag/ tea ball/ tea dip (Preferably metal tea ball)
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • Sugar or honey (Cannabis-infused or not)

Step 1: Grinding the herbs

Remember you’re not trying to smoke the plant, so we don’t want extra fine powder while grinding. The consistency of the bud is akin to having small particles – similar to chopping the buds. Twist the herb grinder once or twice.

Step 2: Buttering it up

Coat the chopped buds with butter ensuring you cover every side with it. Make sure you don’t drown them in melted butter, we just need a fine coating. This is done to bind the THC to a fatty acid since THC is insoluble in water.

Step 3: Making the dip!

Take the metal ball, and create your DIY cannabis tea tip by stuffing it with the buds + butter mixture. In case you don’t own a metal ball, you can always use the tea bag, and empty it of the tea leaves and fill it with the cannabis mixture. Make sure you seal it properly to avoid spilling in the water.

Step 4: Heat it Up

Take the decided amount of water, and put it on the stove to boil. Make sure the flame is on low to boil it gently.

Step 5: Steep it

Dip the tea ball into the boiling water and let it simmer for half an hour. This will allow it to squeeze the maximum flavour from the cannabis mixture. You can additionally add normal tea leaves for enhanced herbal flavour.

Step 6: Serve

Once you’re done with the above step, remove the tea ball/bags. Let the mixture cool down to a consumable temperature and then serve. To appease your taste palate, you can add sugar or honey as per your preference.

2. Marijuana Tea Latte

We take the recipe game up a notch and bring to you some luxury cannabis tea for when you’re feeling low. This is the best answer to how to make cannabis tea and is honestly my favourite one!

For this method, you will need:

  • 1 gram cannabis (any preferred strain)
  • 1 teaspoon butter (cannabis-infused or not)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Blender
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tea-dip (preferred flavour)
  • 2 tsp of honey/sugar (optional)

Step 1: Grinding the herbs

Follow this step as explained in the previous recipe, and make sure they’re in chunks and not in powdery form.

Step 2: Mixing it up

Take a blender, and mix cannabis strain with milk, butter and vanilla until the surface is smooth. Once done, leave this aside for an hour to smoothen.

Step 3: Heat & Water

Take a pan and add the decided amount of water. In this, add the blended mixture and keep it on simmer. Make sure it’s not boiling but has very gentle bubbles. Supervise the temperature for 30 minutes, regulating when required. When the water gets too low, add more. Make sure the liquid in the pan is maintained.

Step 4: Tea dip!

After 30 minutes, remove it from the stove and add your favourite tea dip in it to enhance the flavour. Allow the tea to steep for at least 3-5 minutes.

Step 5: Sieve it!

Strain the mixture into your teapot or your cup directly to ensure you don’t get any unpleasant buds in your mouth.

Step 6: Serve it!

You can always add frothed milk and whipped cream to give yourself a real latter feel. Honey or sugar is also recommended for sweetness. It’s time to savour it!

Follow the first recipe when you’re in a hurry and the 2nd one for a relaxed indulgence. This brings us to the end of how to make cannabis tea questions. I hope I was able to answer it accurately. Feel free to comment below.
