A RUSSIAN YouTube star has been accused of animal cruelty after posting footage of a chimpanzee smoking a bong and getting “stoned”.

Vitaly Zdorovetskiy filmed himself asking ape Cesar “Are you high, bro” in Instagram footage he captioned: “When your friend smokes for the first time.”

The prankster, who first made headlines by streaking across the pitch during a live World Cup match in 2014, can be heard laughing in the background.

The sick video shows the chimp puffing on the pipe then bolting away towards a tattered red sofa.

As Cesar chomps on a piece of fruit, Vitaly is heard saying: “Now you’ve got the munchies, huh.”

He is later seen shoving a cigar near the half-asleep chimp’s mouth and refers to him using the N-word.

Many of his followers were outraged by the video, and some alerted animal welfare group Peta.

One Instagrammer wrote: “Disgusting. Shame on you! The monkey has more brains than you.”

Others chimed in with calls of “animal abuse”, and one wrote: “I will do everything in my power to get your twitter page banned and charged with cruelty to animals.”

Former fan Kaylin added: “This is disgusting to watch. I used to be a loyal subscriber but this is too far.”

Peta tweeted to say its Cruelty Investigations Department was looking into claims of animal abuse.

Zdorovetskiy, who has amassed more than a billion hits on YouTube, has previously been arrested over fake bomb scares and interrupting live sporting events.

He has also repeatedly been criticised for uploading what some deem as racist and sexist content.

Last year YouTube megastar Pewdiepie sparked a racism storm when he got accomplices to unfurl a banner reading “Death to all Jews” as part of an ill-judged joke.
