Andy Husbands

Chef and cookbook author Andy Husbands puts his early years as a pitmaster and his experience on the competitive barbecue circuit to good use at his newest endeavor, the Smoke Shop, in Cambridge.

Using his carefully-honed set of skills – from his days working alongside Chris Schlesinger at the gone-but-not-forgotten East Coast Grill and his time touring the country as part of the IQUE barbecue team, which he founded with Chris Hart – Husbands has created a wide ranging menu of what he calls City Q. The offerings pull from the barbecue traditions of Memphis, Kansas City, and Texas with a few Asian influences and, of course, New England seasonality.

Open for lunch and dinner daily, Smoke Shop boasts a 100+ American Whiskey selection available straight up or incorporated into elevated takes on Southern cocktails. There’s a take-out area for quick lunch and dinner options plus a full private party and catering component for barbecue lovers who want to chow down at home.

The Smoke Shop BBQ Opens in Cambridge’s Harvard Square

A fourth location of a local group of barbecue restaurants has opened its doors.

According to a source, The Smoke Shop BBQ is now open in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge, with Chef Andy Husbands opening the new spot in a space on Holyoke Street that had been home to En Boca, and before that, Sandrine’s. The new location joins others in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood, Somerville’s Assembly Row, and Cambridge’s Kendall Square, and it has been in the works for awhile, as plans for it were first announced in the summer of 2019.

Eater Boston mentions that the new location of The Smoke Shop BBQ will include one item that is exclusive to the restaurant–Nashville hot sliders, which are offered spicy or “hot as cluck.”

The address for The Smoke Shop BBQ in Harvard Square is 8 Holyoke Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138. The website for all locations can be found at https://thesmokeshopbbq.com/
